We got discharged today around 2pm and had an uneventful trip home (with a stop at Costco for some gas).  Overall a very good afternoon.  Now we see the first night and see how it goes with the night shift.

Family update

The family is doing good. Nick met Adam for the first time. He did an excellent job! He even posed with Adam for some shots at the hospital (he won't pose for us by himself!). Mom is doing good though the pain is still there. Adam is doing very good. He went to the nursery last night so Jen and I could get some sleep which was much appreciated. Now we wait to go home and hope that Adam doesn't start screaming at 2am (fingers crossed).

Baby watch '08 (Updated)

The day has arrived (we hope) for the next little guy's arrival. We are in the hospital getting induced as I write. We have the same nurse, Deb, as with Nick. At 1pm we are progressing but waiting for the doc to show up "midday". Future updates to occur as long as the iPhone holds up.

Update 1: The doc just broke the water but doesn't expect anything until around 5:30. Baby is doing very good so far.

Update 2: No change except for pain. The pain anty has been upped, no epideral yet. Waiting for 5pm now when the doc is going to come.

Update 3: Epideral is in. Waiting for things to progress and the doc to show up.

Update 4: 8:30 and not much progress, no doc earlier but he is expected tonight... Looks like Dad might share his birthday.

Update 5: 9:30 and the doc just visited, upper the pitocin and was cautiously optomistic that it would happen soon.

Update 6: 10:45 a visit from the doc, 7cm and looking better. I think we are 1-2 hrs away. Mom will be happy when she is done!

Chumby

Jen got me a Chumby for my birthday this year.  What is a Chumby (the same question my wife asked when she first saw it)?  It is kind of a mini display that connects to the internet and shows stuff in small bits.  For example a clock, or an alarm, games, weather reports, snow reports, etc. in a cute little package.  The perfect gift for the nerd in all of us (or me at least).  Thanks Dear!

Merry Christmas

Well we didn't decorate the trees per se but we did get the lights up and all the presents wrapped (of course Santa's presents were already wrapped).  Here is a picture of the family tree and Nick and baby's tree.

Christmas Lights

Yesterday we took a trip to the Mormon Temple in Mesa to view the Christmas Lights they have.  Pretty impressive and overall a good experience though there was a slight conversion attempt but it was no biggie.  Nick wore himself out by running up some stairs and down a ramp.

Gingerbread House

A first for all of us, a gingerbread house.  Ok so it was prefabed ginger bread it was still fun and Nick really enjoyed the frosting which somehow kept getting on his fingers and in his mouth.

I could easily see a from scratch version reeking havoc in the house.  The gingerbread house was a success and we are looking forward to eating it in the coming days.

Play Sports

The daycare has a program called Play Sports where a company comes in and teaches the kids different sports and develops their skills (for a price of course).  Nick just finished his first session with them and got his diploma (his first?).  He did great in everything except catching which I can believe.  When he catches he puts his arms out and looks like we are asking him to catch an airplane to which he is not too interested.

1 of many to come

Good job Nick

Hunt for the Xmas tree

This Saturday was the great Xmas tree hunt.  We found a good tree after 15min of looking so not to bad.  Nick enjoyed running in and out of the trees.  Nick also found a tree that he and the baby could share so we got them their own tree as well.  Pictures of decorated trees to come later (when they are actually decorated).  A video of Nick's adventure is over at youtube if you would like to see.

Who is this big kid?

Nick's first tricycle ride

While I was at Nick's school on Friday he rode on the "circle bikes" and pedaled forward and backwards so I thought perhaps he was capable of riding his tricycle correctly now (not Flinstoning it).  Lo and behold he was and was pretty good to boot.  Here is a short video of Nick riding in the backyard.  As usual the HD version is only available on youtube.com.

Sedona and the pretty lights

This past Saturday we ventured up to Sedona to see the Red Rock Fantasy for some pretty light action.  The trip up was uneventful and we stopped for some pictures when we got to Sedona.  The first picture below shows what Nick and Mom felt about the weather (Cold!).  After that we got to ride a bus to the lights - Nick loves to ride buses.  We had fun at the lights but it was indeed cold while we were there.  After the lights we had some Mexican dinner and while Mom was going to the restroom Nick and Dad ran around outside to avoid freezing.

Wooo Mama!

Another Baby update

We went to the doc yesterday and got an update on the baby.  The ultrasound showed that the baby is not breech anymore (good) and it weights 7lbs 2oz (95% percentile).  I am hoping for a tax baby but hopefully he won't have to share with me or Christmas.  We should have a better idea after the next visit about when the kiddo might join us.

Through the grapevine I hear that Cori had her little boy so congrats to the Gagnons.

Nick contar en espaƱol

A video of our bilingual (just not the way you would expect) kid counting to 10.  It was pretty funny as out of nowhere he just started counting in Spanish.  Mom and Dad were both suprised and he counted to 10 with no problemo.  As before, the HD version is viewable on youtube.com only.

Squaw Peak video

It has been a while since I climbed Squaw Peak and since I took today off I decided to give it a go.  And boy did I suffer, uffta as they say.  Started strong, wilted early, slowed down to make it to the midmountain break for a short rest and then up to the top.  Normally this wouldn't be blog worthy but I took my new pocket camcorder which shoots in HD to test it out.  It is a very basic camera with no stabalization but shoots good when you are still and have a steady hand.

The video can be seen on the youtube site (see link on the right side) as google won't let the embeded video be HD.  So click over to youtube and when it starts look for a link that says "Watch in HD" on the bottom right of the video (do have a fast connection to watch it in HD).

Enjoy the mid mountain stop and a view of Phoenix from the top of the mountain in the video.

2 days 2 stories

Every day is a new day as they say.  The last two days were interesting in very different ways.  One good story and one not so good story (in fact very bad!).

The good story is from Tuesday when I picked Nick up from daycare.  We generally go outside and play in his playground for 10-20 minutes and then leave via the big room exit.  In the big room now is some art and thankgiving pictures.  So we went through the pictures and he named them all except for a pumpkin which he said was an apple.  So I told him it was a pumpkin and he responded by saying "ohh, trick or treat".  I thought it was pretty good that he remembered where he saw pumpkins and what he was doing as well.

The bad, very bad, story was today - tonight rather.  Fortunately for Jen she was out at Toys R Us trying to get a train toy.  Dad was home to watch the kiddo and give him a bath (is that a hint or what?).  Sometimes I will stick my feet in the tube and Nick enjoys having Mom or Dad in the tub with him.  This time however the water must have been just the right temperature cuz all of a sudden he squatted and pushed and out came a present!  We were out quick thankfully and a quick rub down with a wash cloth cleaned him up, but not his mess.  That was a fun present for Dad.  They really should make young people clean poop out of a tub before they are able to have kids, it is very good birth control if you ask me.

The obvious answer is Yes, the also obvious question is "Did Dad need a beer after that?"

Zoo Light '08

So the holidays are upon us.  We actually have everything (I think) for Nick that he will be getting (courtesy of Mom on Black Friday) .  We are getting everything in place for the next one as we hope to get a good deduction this year - come on baby, Papa needs a new [insert Gadget].  Our first rite of holiday passage is Zoo Lights.  Nick enjoyed the "pretty lights" and the talking Giraffe.  He even stayed awake till 9:30 when we left and was in a good mood the whole time.  See Nick, if you take a nap the rest of the day is Better!

Nick by the pretty lights.

What would a trip to the zoo be without hitting the carousel?

For those observent types you might be wondering why we didn't clean his nose.  Actually he did something overnight and rubbed a layer of skin off his nose so that isn't a nose bleed, it is a scab.  Hopefully to be gone soon so we can get a nice Xmas picture.

Baby update

Well the new guy is certainly making our lives interesting.  We moved Nick into his new room to make way for the new kiddo and Nick loves it so far.  We are still working on a few things but it is 99% done.

Jen went to the doc this week and got plenty of information.  First is that the baby weighs 6lbs and per the ultrasound is 36 weeks in (versus the 32 it "should" be).  Also the baby is breech right now so Jen is doing some exercises to try to get him in the right spot.  Ultimately this leads us to believe we may have a scheduled birth this year though the doc still says Jan 12.  We shall see soon no matter what.

The little squigles say the baby has plenty of hair.

Also, seeing as the baby may show his little face sooner then later we need to figure out a name.  The leaders as of today are: 1. Adam, 2. Andrew, 3. Neal, 4. Matthew, 5. Kyle.

Sports weekend

This past weekend was sporting event outings weekend.  On Friday we went to the Roadrunners (closer and way cheaper) to watch some hockey.  Nick had a good first period but the second period proved to be his undoing so we didn't make it to the 3rd (the game started at 7pm so we didn't really expect to make it much longer).  Overall he loved the Hockey game and he learned how to yell so he liked that too.

Then on Sunday we took him to his first Cardinal game.  Unfortunately he didn't take a nap on the way so it took a toll (on all of us :O).  Nick was excited to go to the Football game and clap.  Parking was easy, the walk was a little long but no biggie.  We stopped for a few pictures at the big 1 and then on inside.  We were pretty high up and tickets there weren't cheap, the Cards must be raking in some cash these days.  We had a good time but left at the beginning of the 4th and beat the rush out (we didn't miss much as the Cards took the 4th quarter off).  Of course Nick was out in 5 minutes...

The Big One (and the important 2)

Ohhhhhh Pizza

We did a lot of this.

Funny anecdote: So hockey is one of those sports where you learn colorful language.  After a goal by our team the crowd cheerfully notes to their goalie: "He shoots, he scores, hey goalie, You Suck".  Guess what part Nick picked up on...  So at the football game while we were walking around he was clapping he would again cheerfully say "You suck".  Lovely.

Milk it baby!

So when you've got something that works keep it rolling.  Nick loves the outdoors (known) and now loves Hole in the Rock.  So this time the whole family went and enjoyed it (well Mom worried about crazy Nick a little).  Below are a couple of cute pictures with the little guy that we got - not such a little one anymore...

Mom and Nick in the windy spot.

Nick and Dad playing it cool.

The other news is that while Nick's room was ready to go we noticed that the bed we just got for Nick was crack on the side.  Seeing as it was the second time and Nick only slept on it once (yep, he took a Nap! on it) we decided it had to go.  Luckily Mom remembered that the crib actually is meant to turn into a toddler bed so it should work out pretty good.  Still need a crib for the new kiddo but Nick can stay in his crib until he desires to change it to the toddler style.

Garage door noise

As the date approaches for the new kiddo we decided we had to do something about the garage door(s).  The kids rooms are right above the garage and openning and closing was Very loud.  It was actually pretty funny to see Nick's eyes when the door opened he was a little scared.

There are two major sources of noise in the garage door, the wheels and the door opener itself.  We had metal wheels and a screw type garage door (we bought thinking it was quiet).  Lacking the desire or skill to replace the door opener we had a professional do it, we replaced it with a belt drive Liftmaster model.  When this was done the difference was striking but not quiet enough.  So we had him change out the wheels.  And here is the trick, he removed the guide on one side and rolled the door down and popped out each wheel and replaced with a nylon wheel.  Very quick and easy.  This is a trick that I had not seen anywhere so I was a bit disappointed in Home Depot and Lowes when I saw how easy it was.  Anyway, after the nylon wheels were installed the door openning is Very quiet.

Seeing as we have two doors and no desire to pay for another opener, I just changed out the wheels.  It is quieter but not nearly as quiet as the Liftmaster.  So for those out there looking for a quiet door get a belt drive door opener and replace the wheels with nylon ones.  If you think it is still to loud you are insane and should get some help.

Now Nick can get some sleep and we can open the garage door without fear!  A new day at the Andresen household.

Veteran's Day outing

Yesterday Nick and Dad had the day off to wander about town and see what was up. Daycare was closed so Dad joined Nick in a day of fun. First we went to the Zoo to say hi to all the animals. Of keen interest is the Lion and Turtles, below is a picture of the turtle. Next is the long walk to the petting zoo where we can ride tractors, pet some goats and along the way maybe eat some Kettle Korn. After the obligatory ride on the carousel we are off to Papago park and Hole in the Rock in particular. Nick never having been there had a lot of fun. He enjoyed the hike and couldn't get enough of the big rock.

Just a little closer...

Tractor, need I say more?

What the $&*# ?

So yesterday we went to the Suns game against Portland.  It was a good game and the Suns won with a great 3rd quater.  So when they win everyone gets a coupon for some McDonald's fries, whoops, not anymore?!?!  Now we get a free Iced Coffee?!?!  What the $&*#?  For shame MickyD's, for shame.

Also, the due date for the next kiddo got moved up from Jan 20 to the 12th.  The doc also said the baby was big so they may want to induce even earlier.  Maybe we will get a tax break this year, yeah team.

Halloween '08

Meet little Tigger, aka Nick.  Yesterday was Halloween and may I say, Nick's first real attempt at it.  Other then scary stuff at some houses he did awesome.  He walked almost the whole time and said Trick or Treat and thank you to everyone.  We stayed out for 40minute and he really enjoyed it.  Once we got back he even helped Mom and Dad pass out candy to the other kids.  A very successful Halloween.

Schenpf Farms

Today was quite an active day.  First there was a garage sale, followed closely by Marina's party.  After a little relaxation we went to Schenpf Farms for some fun and pumpkin hunting.  We were unsure of the place as we had never gone but overall was very impressed (how can free carousel rides go wrong?).  Nick rode an airplane, a bee, the carousel and a choo choo train.  Though the line was long Dad got to have some chilli which is never a bad thing.  At last we ended with a couple pumpkins; Nick's, Nick's for daycare and one for home.  A long an tiring day!

Marina's Bday party

Marina from daycare had her birthday party at a place called Pump it Up today.  A couple of big rooms filled with inflatable bouncy houses.  Nick had a great time here.  Mom was impressed with the tight ship they ran.  Fun was had by everyone, though it did prove to Dad that he was indeed old and very unflexible trying to negotiate some of the bouncy houses.

Busy Sunday

We had a busy Sunday today.  First we had to go shopping for food and also pick up a book rack for Nick's room.  Then Grandma and Grandpa Taylor came by to visit.  We went to Chen's for lunch and then to Freestone park for play.  This is where Nick took his first solo ride ever!  He also rode the carousel with Grandma and fed the ducks some Cherrios.  After that we went to the Phoenix Roadrunners game (they lost but a good game).  All were tired at the end of the day.
